Meet us where “play” and “cafe” come together
In February 2017, Nina and Paul Joseph Makovski moved from Los Angeles to the Chicago area with their young daughter, Vivian. The adjustment from sunny California to winter in Chicago was a bit startling for the young family!
Nina went in search of a sunny and indoor place for Vivian to play but, at the time, there weren't a lot of options to help them break out of their winter blues. Nina saw an opportunity, and that’s how this “play cafe” in La Grange was born.
Waterlemon is a place where adults can sip a cup of coffee while kids play in a sunny indoor playroom. Modern, clean, and stylish, this indoor play space also boasts a gift boutique, and a party supply store.
You can also rent the space for parties or private playtime!
The retail store for Waterlemon is open seven days a week: Monday through Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
The drop-in play hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am to 4:30pm.
You won’t want to miss the special storytime hosted every Tuesday from 11am to 11:30am and Thursday from 3:45 to 4:15pm at Watermelon. During this storytime, Snow White, Spiderman (or another favorite character!) reads a book to the kids!
Note: Sometimes Watermelon opens up on the weekend for play hours, but the weekend is usually booked for parties. Keep an eye on the Watermelon Facebook page for weekend play hours!
Open play is $14/child and 90-minute private play sessions are $60 (1-8 people) or $90 (9-16 people).
Prices range to rent the Waterlemon Boutique for a party on the weekend. The “Petite Party” package is $275 and the “Best Fete Ever” party package is $725. There are many party options in between these price points.
Nina Joseph Makovski is your guide at Waterlemon. You will almost certainly find this mom welcoming you into the sunny and welcoming space for kids to play and for adults to relax.
You may also find Nina’s daughter, Vivian, or her husband, Paul, at the play cafe as this is a family-run business.
Waterlemon is located at 25 S. La Grange Road. It’s a five-minute walk from the La Grange Road stop on the BNSF Metra or a 30-minute drive from downtown Chicago.
