Meet us where collaboration and community unite
Riverside Foods is more than a grocery store. This is where local businesses collaborate to create exclusive products that give back to the community.
For example, the collaboration between Riverside Foods and BuckleDown Brewery honors Riverside in more ways than one.
It started during the dark days at the onset of the pandemic. Riverside Foods owner Peter Boutsikakis was feeling a little down when he was greeted by a customer who shouted “the future is bright!”
This lifted the spirits of Boutsikakis who partnered with Ike Orcutt of BuckleDown Brewery to create a golden lager called The Future is Bright.
The lager is in a can designed to look like the chalk artwork that popped up on sidewalks all over the community during the lockdown. This beer is only available at Riverside Foods and BuckleDown, but another option is available at taps across Riverside.
That beer is the “Lush by Design” Wheat Ale that was created in another collaboration between Riverside Foods and BuckleDown Brewery. Here the name is a celebration of the famed landscape style of architect Frederick Law Olmsted who designed the “lush” Riverside community.
Lush by Design is available on tap at the Chew Chew, La Barra, and Mollies Public House, and some of the proceeds will be invested back into the community through the Frederick Law Olmsted Society of Riverside, the Riverside Arts Center, and the Riverside Historical Commission.
The owners of Riverside Foods take pride in collaborating with local small business owners and in giving back to the community.
Riverside Foods is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am-7pm, Saturday from 7:30am-6pm, and Sunday from 8am-4pm.
The Garbis family first opened the Central Food Mart in 1962. Today the grandsons of the original owner operate Riverside Foods out of its current location. You will probably find Peter Boutsikakis and Anthony Garbis a the community grocery store when you come to stock up!
Riverside Foods is located at 48 E. Burlington Street just a four-minute walk from the Riverside stop on the BNSF.
