What to Expect at the Westchester Community Event Saturday | July 27

Four Points by Sheraton Chicago Westchester/Oak Brook at 2222 Enterprise Drive in Westchester

will welcome the community and neighbors on Saturday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Meet Norbert the Orbiteer at the Mini Donuts truck! He’ll be serving “out of this world” freshly fried mini donuts. You can also visit the 10 Thirteen Cuisine food truck for delicious BBQ wings and sides.

The event, held at the hotel’s side parking lot, will include live music by popular duo Vintage, with lead singer/rhythm guitarist Karyn Kay and lead guitarist/vocalist John Ziganto, who will entertain you with an eclectic mix of classic to current rock, adult contemporary, and country classics.

Plus, games and activities, including face painting, will keep the kids happy, too.

The hotel is partnering with Westchester Food Pantry and hosting a Food Drive Raffle at the Event. You will receive one raffle entry for every food item and dollar donated to Westchester Food Pantry. The most needed items are jelly, pasta sauce, cereal, canned pasta/stew/chili, toiletries, pet food, coffee, tea, condiments, dish soap, and laundry detergent. Bring a donation to the Summer Community Event to enter the raffle.

Four Points by Sheraton Chicago Westchester/Oak Brook is looking forward to showing how excited it is to be a part of the community and hopes to make this an annual event. There is plenty of free parking and no fee to attend. Tours of guestrooms and meeting facilities will be available as well.

While You’re in Town

After the event, stick around! There’s plenty Westchester has to offer.

You can continue your food tour in Westchester with a range of global flavors. Visit Westchester Inn (3069 Wolf Road, Westchester) for oversized portions of Bohemian-American food (think pickled beef with creamy svíčková gravy, chicken schnitzel, and gravy-topped meatloaf), including pierogi, roast loin of pork, roast island duck, and fruit dumplings.

El Alegre Burrito (2142 South Mannheim Road, Westchester), beloved by locals, does a brisk takeout business and offers a few tables inside and out to enjoy delicious Mexican favorites like burritos, tamales, flautas, tacos, and sopes (savory bites of fried masa filled with refried beans, cheese, or other ingredients).

ThiThi’s Fine Dining and Martini Bar (11055 Roosevelt Road, Westchester) offers a martini bar and an extensive menu showcasing the tastes of  Thailand's, the rich culinary heritage of Vietnam, and the elegance and sophistication of French cuisine.

Looking for more activities? Stop by Eden Lanes (10159 W Cermak Road, Westchester) for a classic bowling lane experience, plus pizza, pasta, salads, BBQ, calzones, sandwiches, and more.

Westchester is also home to Wolf Road Prairie Nature Preserve (entrance at 31st Street, west of Wolf Road), a stunning 82-acre preserve comprised of savanna, wetland, and rare black soil prairie landscapes teeming with wildflowers and native plants, including prairie dock, Indian plantain, and prairie phlox, and over 350 miles of paved trails and unpaved trails. Part of the Illinois State Nature Preserve landscapes, it is a treasured remnant of the vast prairies that once covered the state. It is adjacent to other forest preserves along the Salt Creek Trail to enjoy many varied hiking and biking trails.

You can't leave Westchester without stopping by Sha Poppin' Gourmet Popcorn Shop (1917 South Mannheim Road, Westchester) to meet owner Stacey Hawkins Armstrong, known as the "Mad Scientist of Popcorn," for a bag (or two or three) of delicious flavored popcorn. She has more than 40 popcorn flavors for you to try, including Memphis BBQ Cheddar, Guadalajara Hot Sauce, Sassy Caramel Apple, Maple Bacon, and Dill Pickle.

Westchester is a quiet residential neighborhood with plenty of green spaces, restaurants, grocery stores, fitness centers, and a variety of retailers located just 16 miles west of Chicago. It is a great day trip — the I-290 expressway or local roads will take you from Chicago’s Loop in about 30 minutes — or, if you prefer to spend some time exploring the area, Four Points by Sheraton Chicago Westchester/Oak Brook is conveniently located, just a mile from the Wolf Road Prairie Nature Reserve, five miles from Brookfield Zoo, and two miles from all the shops and restaurants of Oakbrook Center.
