The 2024 Pet Parade takes place on June 1st at 9:30am. The Parade starts at the intersection of La Grange Road and Cossit Avenue and will travel north on La Grange Road before turning left and heading west on Burlington Avenue.

In 1947, the La Grange Chamber of Commerce held its first-ever Pet Parade to bring the community together with a pet and child costume contest and parade down the village's main street.

The first parade was a huge success, featuring youngsters in costumes with their pets or riding decorated bicycles. The family affair quickly became an annual event. As the years passed, the parade grew to include entries from local schools, businesses, and non-profit groups, becoming a much larger and more diverse event.

The parade gained local notoriety throughout the 1970s to the 1990s when Pet Parade was televised by the WGN Television Network, bringing even more attention to this beloved community event. Since then, LTTV (Lyons Township High School TV) has filmed and broadcast the event on local access cable, ensuring that the Pet Parade is still widely seen and appreciated.

Over the years, the Pet Parade has evolved and expanded, becoming one of the most talked-about parades in Chicagoland, drawing thousands of people to the area each year.

The Pet Parade route winds through downtown La Grange for approximately 1.5 miles. It starts at 9:30 a.m. in the heart of the business district and includes four street announcing stations along the parade route. The current format of the parade includes participants with all types of pets, performers, and costumes on display. Many people consider the pet parade an unofficial kick-off to summer, providing fun and entertainment for the entire family. It has become an annual tradition that the community looks forward to every year.
