2023 Street Naming Dedication
The Operation Uplift Inc. Governing Board of Directors in partnership with the Village of Maywood is excited to invite you to be a special guest at their Juneteenth Celebration and Street Naming Dedication Ceremony on June 17th at 1pm at the Operation Uplift Grounds (get directions). The 2023 Street Naming Celebration will be in honor of Mrs. Northica Hillery Stone who was the President and CEO of Emeritus.
4th Annual Let's Grow Together Holistic Wellness and Juneteenth Festival
The Annual Let's Grow Together Holistic Wellness and Juneteenth Festival is coming to the Walter Christian Academy (get directions) on June 10th from 11am to 4pm. This event is a collaboration between the communities of Austin, Oak Park, Maywood, Forest Park, River Forest, and Melrose Park to celebrate health, wellness, and education while spotlighting the black experience.
This year's celebration will pay a special tribute to the life of Kenneth Monarrez with an honorary 3k walk/run, honoring his unwavering spirit and the impact he made on those around him. Get ready to immerse yourself in a Saturday of fun and inspiring activities, including West Communities Collaborative's Juneteenth traveling museum, Herbivore's Chex Max, music by DJ FlyTy, dance showcases, a food vendor competition with a prize for the "Favorite Dish of the Fest," crossfit, yoga, group meditation, and much more. The festival is free to all guests!
Juneteenth Flag-Raising Ceremony
Meet us at the Village Hall Courtyard (get directions) on June 14th from 6pm to 8pm to raise the Juneteenth flag in celebration. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. The ceremony will include speeches about the history of Juneteenth and live music. Local food vendors will also be present to join in on the celebration!
Juneteenth Parade and Community Cookout
Oak Park's Juneteenth celebration culminates with a parade and community cookout on Sunday, June 18 beginning at 11am at Longfellow Park (get directions). The parade will march north on Ridgeland Avenue to Augusta Street. Community groups and organizations are invited to participate in the parade, which is being organized by members of the community.
Following the parade, a community cookout sponsored by the Village will be held at Taylor Park (get directions). The cookout will feature a DJ, live entertainment, games, free food and drinks and more.
