The Home for the Holidays event at the Frank Lloyd Wright Oak Park Home offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the Wright family’s festive traditions. On December 7th visitors can enjoy a free tour of the historic home, decorated with a stunning tree adorned with traditional German glass ornaments, poinsettias, and fresh greenery. Cookie Walk/Winterfest — December 7th, 10 am–3 pm

 

Who said trick-or-treating is just for Halloween? Winterfest in Downtown Oak Park is an interactive holiday experience filled with treats! The event kicks off at 10 am with carols from the Heritage Chorale. The main event is the Cookie Walk where 29 local businesses will hand out cookies, chocolates, and other treats to those with their 2024 Cookie Walk tin. Be sure to register in advance to claim your tin which can be picked up from the hospitality tent the day of the event. From 12 pm to 1 pm, you can warm up in the lobby of Byline Bank with a performance by The Juliet Trio, a jazz group of OPRF High School students. If you’re not up for the walk through town, cozy up at the Lake Theatre with a free screening of Elf. Be on the lookout for Santa who will be wandering around town making his list and checking it twice!

The Nutcracker — December 7th (2 pm, 7 pm) & 8th (12 pm, 4 pm)

 

The 2024 Nutcracker performance at Dominican University's Lund Auditorium in River Forest promises to be a highlight of the holiday season. The performance will feature Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, with soloist Kuang-Hao Huang, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, and Copland's Tender Land Suite. A pre-concert conversation begins at 3 pm, and the concert starts at 4 pm. Tickets are $30, with free admission for students. The event promises to be the musical celebration of the season.

Holiday Magic at Brookfield Zoo — End of November through December, see link for times

 

Holiday Magic is Chicagoland’s longest-running lights festival at the Brookfield Zoo and is a holiday must! This event uses over two million twinkling LED lights to create scenes like giant illuminated animals, a dazzling tunnel show, Santa, and captivating walkthrough displays! Santa himself makes an appearance between 5 pm and 8 pm (November 22nd through December 22nd) at the Pavilions. New for 2024 is their Holiday Market where you can warm up with seasonal food and beverages and shop unique finds for those on your shopping list.

Holly Jolly Gingerbread Party — December 7th, 11 am–2 pm

 

Celebrate the holiday season at Brookfield Zoo's 2024 Holly Jolly Gingerbread Party on December 7th, from 11 am to 2 pm. This gingerbread decorating fundraiser is fun for the whole family, featuring a delicious brunch and dessert buffet complete with a hot cocoa bar and mimosa and Bloody Mary bar for the adults. Guests can enjoy gingerbread house decorating with professional decorators on hand, meet Santa, and interact with some of the Zoo’s animal ambassadors while supporting the Women's Board of Brookfield Zoo.
