Meet us where the steaks are cooked tableside
At Tom’s Steak House in Melrose Park, the steaks are brought to your table still cooking on a charcoal brazier that perfectly browns and finishes your meal right in front of you.
Before your hand-cut steak reaches your table, it is cooked over flaming hickory charcoal on the restaurant’s original broilers to give it the traditional Tom’s taste that has brought people back to this steakhouse since it first opened in 1952.
Your steak is then paired with a signature Au Jus and all the trimmings, including a freshly baked potato topped with cheese and chive sauce, and a soup or salad.
Perhaps all this is why Tom’s steak earned a “Chicago’s Best” nod!
While Tom’s “old school” method of serving steaks is both nostalgic and legendary, the special salad dressing here may be just as famous! It’s not just one salad dressing, it is a carousel of three housemade salad dressings: French, Russian, and creamy garlic.

Tom’s is open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm, and Sunday from noon to 10pm. Check Tom’s Facebook page for weekly specials and holiday menus.
Prices for steaks range from $22 to $46 depending on your selection of filet mignon, T-bone, New York strip, or bone-in rib eye (Tom’s favorite was the T-Bone). Regardless of what you select, remember that it comes with all the trimmings including baked potato and your choice of soup or salad.
Lamb chops served with mint jelly are $48 while the Athenian-style, center-cut pork chops are $25. A full slab of barbeque baby-back ribs is $29.
Tom’s proclaims the Oyster Rockefeller to be “the best you will ever eat,” so you’ll have to give that a try! ($17)
