Meet us where the customer is the inspiration behind the flavor
Tate’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop is one of those local shops that entice you through the door with the aroma of fresh-made ice cream.
When you walk inside to get your scoop, you’ll find a welcoming smile in this family-owned establishment that’s a staple in the neighborhood. For more than 35 years, Tate’s has made its ice cream in-house, creating flavors that are inspired by the seasons - and by the customers.
That’s right, you can help make the next fresh and innovative ice cream flavor at Tate’s! There is a board in the shop where guests suggest ideas for new flavors.
There is nothing that makes owner Maria Marciniec happier than creating a flavor that reminds a customer of childhood.
The family-friendly shop has kid-sized tables as well as books and games to keep the little ones busy while they create new memories that (someday!) may just be the inspiration for a new ice cream flavor!
Beyond the ice cream, Tates offers old-fashioned malts, shakes, sodas, and ice cream pies.
Tate’s is open Monday through Thursday from 1pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from noon to 9pm, and Sunday from noon to 8:30pm.
Naturally, the summer months seem like the best time to stop in at an ice cream shop for a scoop, but the holidays are also a great time to visit Tate’s because owner Maria Marciniec turns the shop into a gingerbread house!
Maria Marciniec is the hand behind the scoop at Tate’s Ice Cream Shop. You’ll find her behind the counter at this family-owned establishment just waiting to talk about a new ice cream flavor to create!
She loves creating new flavors that remind her customers of fond memories.
Tate’s is located at 25 S. Ashland Ave in La Grange. It’s just a three-minute walk from the La Grange Road Stop on the BNSF Railway.
