Sweetgreen

Meet us where fast food is healthy

The premise behind this fast-casual restaurant is that fast food doesn’t have to be unhealthy and good food doesn’t have to be expensive.

Beyond that, Sweetgreen challenges the American food system by connecting people with farm-to-table, scratch-made food with a transparent supply chain. In doing so, Sweetgreen builds healthier, more earth-friendly communities.

That’s a big mission, but with restaurants across the United States, including right here in Oak Park, Sweetgreen is flipping the script on conventional food norms and the result is a delicious, seasonal menu that you can feel good about eating.

The signature “warm bowls,” include a Chicken Pesto Parm Bowl with roasted chicken, spicy broccoli, tomato, shaved parmesan, breadcrumbs, warm quinoa, and baby spinach in a special Sweetgreen hot sauce and a pesto vinaigrette.

Of course, there is a wide variety of salads, including a healthful take on a classic. The Kale Caesar comes with roasted chicken, tomato, parmesan, shredded kale, chopped romaine, fresh-squeezed lime, and caesar dressing.

It all started with three college students and a dorm-room strategy session. Fed up with unhealthy food options on campus and in the community, Jonathan Neman and his best friends at Georgetown University, Nicolas Jammet and Nathaniel Ru, sketched an idea for a fast-casual restaurant with the goal of building a healthier food system.

About 40 people made small investments to support the trio of new graduates when they set out to challenge the notion that fast food can’t be healthy or sustainable. The $300,000 they earned in startup funding certainly paid off. Today Sweetgreen has more than 150 restaurants and is worth more than $1.6 billion.
