Meet us where community spirit is baked into the delicious pie
It all began at a local farmers market for these sisters who would bake overnight to sell their baked goods at their stand.
Then Meg and Molly Svec set their sites on a brick-and-mortar in Oak Park. Molly used her culinary talents and Meg her business expertise to open Spilt Milk, which is a beautiful bakery, pantry, and kitchen where the community is the heart and soul of the place.
Support from the community is what kept these sisters baking when, during the height of the pandemic, a plumbing issue forced the closure of the original storefront. But locals wouldn’t let this business fail, contributing more than $60,000 to the buildout of a new - and much expanded - space around the corner.
Now you can come by the bakery where the pie is the specialty item. Try an Heirloom Apple Pie, a Banana Cream Pie, or get a little wild with the S’mores Pie.
Fresh-baked pastries, cookies, and bread are also on the menu. You can also stock up on meat and eggs at Spilt Milk.
This small business ensures it gives back both to the community and to the planet. Spilt Milk was the first Oak Park business to become 100 percent carbon-neutral!
Spilt Milk is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 3pm and Sunday from 8am to noon. (Closed Monday)
The homemade pies are just $7!
Sisters Meg and Molly Svec will likely be at the bakery to welcome you into their new and expanded space.
Molly is a professional baker who has worked the oven at prominent pastry kitchens in Chicago and on the East Coast. Meg brings her expertise in business to the operation having quit her day job in the corporate world to join in the family bakery.
Located at 811 S. Boulevard, Spilt Milk is just steps from the Oak Park Stop on the “L” Green Line train or less than a half-mile walk from the Oak Park Stop on the Union Pacific Metra.
