When Sliverland Bakery remodeled its Forest Park facilities in 2016, loyal customers panicked because they thought the bakery might be closing. The thought of living without the brownies that have become the thing of local legend was too much for the neighborhood to bear!
Those legendary brownies come in a wide range of flavors and varieties. The Cocoa Cow is a smooth, creamy, dark chocolate brownie with a marbled cream-cheese topping. The Seven Layer Brownie includes layers of graham crackers, chocolate chips, butterscotch, walnuts, and coconut.
It’s not just the brownies that keep people coming to this all-natural bakery. It’s also the hand-crafted cookies, crispy rice treats, and raw bars that are all locally sourced and made with the highest quality ingredients.
The White Chocolate Blueberry Cookie is as deliciously unique as the Twisted Mountain Cookie with chocolate chunks and pretzels for a sweet and salty combo that is everything.
In addition to the nationally recognized baked goods that have seen their 15-minutes of fame on the Food Network and Travel Channel, this neighborhood bakery also gives back. Silverland Bakery sponsors a Cambodian village and supports local women in need.
Silverland is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 4pm. The bakery is closed on Sunday.
You have to try it all at Silverland, which means the “Intro to Silverland” box is the way to go. A box of 12 best-selling brownies is $32 and includes Double Chocolate and Salted Caramel brownies.
Thirty years ago, Athena Uslander was an engineer trained to build bridges. But she gave up her job for her passion, swapping bridges for brownies and building a business she is proud of.
At Silverland Bakery, Uslander bakes her family recipes in a labor of love that she dubs “crafted by hand and heart”.
Silverland Bakery is located at 439 Des Plaines Avenue in Forest Park. It’s a seven-minute walk from the Forest Park Stop on the CTA Blue Line.
