Meet us where sushi is served in style
This family-owned sushi spot in Oak Park seats 30 people at butcher-block tables or at the sushi bar where fresh fish is served to a hungry crowd beside a floor-to-ceiling, wood-carved Buddha face.
At lunchtime, the Bento Box special is a popular option. It comes with soup, salad, shrimp and vegetable tempura, a California roll, and rice. Then choose from the options of grilled chicken teriyaki, New York strip steak teriyaki, salmon filet teriyaki, tofu teriyaki, panko-crusted pork cutlet, or Chilean sea bass.
From the appetizer menu, we love the Shrimp Shumai (Japanese-style steamed dumplings) and the Hamachi Jalapeño.
There is a large selection of nigiri, sashimi, and maki rolls. Try the Sen Spicy Maki Set with spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and fire ocean maki.
Pair it all with a glass of hot house sake or split a bottle of cold saki from Japan.
Sen Sushi Bar in Oak Park is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 10pm and Sunday from noon to 9:30pm. (Closed Monday.)
The Bento Box Lunch Special is served from 11am to 3pm.
Starters run between $9 and $14. Nigiri and sashimi start at $3 and classic maki rolls start at $8. The Sen Spicy Maki Set is $27.
The lunchtime special Bento Box is between $14 and $19 depending on your choice of main dish.
Chaidanai and Varanya Chaiprasert are co-owners of Sen Sushi in Oak Park. Chaidanai knows his way around family-owned restaurants in Oak Park as he also co-owns Mama Thai on Madison Street, which is a collaboration with his mother.
As Mama Thai grew more and more successful, Chaidanai dreamed of opening a sushi bar. When the location on Oak Park Avenue in the business district opened up, he knew the time was right!
Located at 814 South Oak Park Avenue, Sen Sushi Bar is just steps from the Oak Park Stop on the CTA Blue Line.
