Meet us where you can be a kid again
This old-fashioned candy counter in La Grange is designed to remind you of those simple, joyful days when spending your allowance money on colorful candies was the highlight of your week.
My Grampa’s Store looks much like it did when it opened in 1909. Then it was known as “Hanks” after the friendly owner and candy curator who would patiently help his young customers scramble up to his counter to choose their delicious weekly treats.
The store is still in Hank’s family and, though it’s been renamed and revamped to include baked goods and modern amenities, a stop here will remind you of those nostalgic days when candy could fix any problems.
My Grampa’s Store is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, Saturday from 10am to 3pm, and Sunday by appointment.
The candy counter at My Grampa’s Store is designed to inspire nostalgia in both its appearance and its pricing.
Now you can also create custom cakes designed by owner Nina Morello. Buttercream cakes start at $2 per serving, smash cakes start at $10, a quarter sheet starts at $50, a half sheet at $65, and a full sheet of cake starts at $80.
Gina Morello is today’s owner and operator of My Grampa’s Store, which has been in her family since 1909.
Morello re-opened the store in 1993 in honor of her Grandpa Hank who ran the family store for years. Hank was known for his patience as he helped neighborhood kids make the hard decision about which candies to choose.
Today, Morello offers the same patience and candy-expert guidance to kids (and adults!) seeking to fix their candy cravings. The old-fashioned candy shop is updated with modern fixings while maintaining the same soul that Grandpa Hank infused into his candy counter.
Located at 202 N Waiola Avenue in La Grange, My Grampa’s Store is just a ten-minute walk from the La Grange Stop on the BNSF Metra.
