Meet us where the Italian bread is authentic
Michele Baking Co and Casa Nostra Bakery operate under the same roof in a 22,000-square-foot facility on Mannheim Road in Franklin Park.
Casa Nostra was started by Mike Florio in 1973 after immigrating from Bari Italy where he learned to bake the famous Florio family bread with his father. In no time at all, Florio’s Italian bread became a Chicagoland favorite and the family-run bakery outgrew its 1,000-square-foot facility on Irving Park Road.
Today, Mike and his family share the huge baking facility on Mannheim Road with Michele Baking, which Mike started with the purpose of baking softer bread products to complement the crunchier Italian bread made famous by the Florio family and its Casa Nostra Bakery.
Now both companies are wholesale bakeries with a small retail shop in the front of the bakery offering delicious fresh bread and sandwiches.
Stop by for old-world Italian rustic bread products with an authentic crispy covering or soft dinner rolls and burger buns. You’ll also find pizza crusts, flatbreads, sub sandwiches, and fresh focaccias.
The retail shop for Michele Baking Co and Casa Nostra Bakery is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm and Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Closed Sunday.
Though there is now a large staff of bread bakers at Casa Nostra Bakery and Michele Baking Co, you’ll still find owner Mike Florio in the bakery making his handmade bread.
Mike and his family have never forgotten their Italian roots and they bake their famous family recipes with reverence.
Located at 3140 Mannheim Road in Franklin Park, Michele’s is just one mile from the Franklin Park Stop on the Milwaukee District West Metra Train.
