Meet us where the egg rolls may change your life
“Life-changing” is one way to describe the Italian Beef Egg Roll at Lavergne’s Tavern. With giardiniera, cheeses, spicy queso, and au jus for dipping, the go-to menu item gets rave reviews.
But it may be hard to choose from this elevated menu that is still accessible and reasonably priced.
It was important to Lavergne’s owners Jerry and Jorge Hernandez to provide great food at affordable prices. The brothers own two other restaurants in Chicagoland, but they grew up in Berwyn, so Lavergne’s is a homecoming for them.
That shows in the special care taken to restore the landmark Garv’s Inn where the tavern is now located. The brothers kept the tin ceiling and hardwood floors from the original inn and rebuilt the familiar bar using reclaimed black walnut.
The bar is important to Jerry and Jorge who are self-proclaimed beer guys. Behind the bar, you’ll find a wide variety of craft brews and specialty cocktails using fresh-squeezed juices.
In the kitchen, Executive Chef Mark Downing creates accessible dishes that please the palate without breaking the wallet.
Guests love the brunch menu with the classic Chicken and Waffles and stocked Bloody Mary bar.
Lavergne’s is open:
Monday-Thursday from 4pm-10pm
Friday and Saturday from 11am-11pm
Sunday from 11am-10pm
The brunch menu is available Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-2pm.
Owners Jerry and Jorge Hernandez are committed to keeping the menu at Lavergne’s elevated but affordable. Already renowned restaurateurs, the Hernandez brothers are proud to bring a cozy tavern to their hometown of Berwyn.
Appetizers are priced between $6-$9 and entrees run about $14-$16.
If you saddle up at the recreated Garv’s Inn bar beneath the restored tin ceiling, you might find brothers Jerry and Jorge Hernandez.
The brothers grew up in Berwyn before starting their restaurant enterprise. These beer lovers keep the craft beer selection fresh and the menu accessible to all.
Lavergne’s is just a five-minute walk from the Berwyn stop on the BNSF railway line from Chicago. Or a 20-minute drive from downtown.
Street parking is available on the side or in front of the restaurant. There are also plenty of spots around the train station with two-hour parking.
