Meet us where the comfort food is award-winning
What’s that delicious smell you ask? It’s the homemade tortillas from La Lupita that you can smell for miles down Cermak Road in Berwyn.
When Lupita Figueroa moved from Mexico to the United States with her three children, she brought with her a tradition of homemade, authentic Mexican cuisine served from her kitchen to friends and strangers alike.
It was an easy transition from her own kitchen to the one she and her family built in the small restaurant on Cermak Road in 2004 since Lupita already had many customers in the neighborhood who craved her mole and homemade yellow and blue tortillas.
The dining room quickly expanded to today’s bustling and expansive space where the entire family helps to run the place.
Things got even busier for the Figueroas when Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless asked Lupita to serve her famous pozole at the after-party for the James Beard Awards in 2019.
It’s no wonder that Lupita and her pozole got such a prestigious invitation. Lupita’s version of the traditional stew made from hominy with pork and secret Figueroa family spices was once named Chicago’s best pozole. It’s Mexico’s version of comfort food, and Lupita serves the best bowl in town.
Come on by for a bowl of pozole and a michelada. You won’t regret it!
La Lupita is open:
Mondays from 10am-8 pm
Tuesday through Thursday from 10am to 10pm
Friday and Saturday from 10am-midnight
Sundays from 9am-10pm
Dinner entrees range from about $14-$18.
The Figueroa family operates the restaurant. Stop by to say hello and learn more about how Lupita used to set up dining tables in her front lawn in Cuernavaca before the Figueroas moved to the United States.
She replicated this tradition when the family landed in Chicago, opening her kitchen when she was done with her shifts at the factory.
Located on Cermak Road in Berwyn, La Lupita is a 20-minute drive from downtown Chicago.
