When you need a delicious sandwich to go, the new takeout restaurant Cubanito Express is the answer!
Four brothers and a chef who specializes in combining Cuban and Mexican flavors opened their restaurant on Harlem Avenue in early 2022, deliciously filling the grab-and-go restaurant void that was left when the Chinese takeout restaurant Wing Wah closed its doors in 2019.
This new flavor on Harlem Ave will follow the to-go model of its predecessor but with a very different vibe.
Breakfast sandwiches, salads, and coffee will be on the menu as well as house specialty Cuban sandwiches that combine the flavors of Cuba and Puerto Rico with the flavors of Mexico.
The Green Plantain Sandwich lets you choose your protein (steak, chicken, roasted pork, shredded chicken, Cuban or veggie) before the guys at Cubanito top it with Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion, Puerto Rican rice, and garlic sauce.
The Signature Pressed Sandwiches like the Cubanito Express means steak, ham, bacon, fried egg, mozzarella, red onion, potato sticks, and house mayonnaise pressed between slices of fresh bread.
Cubanito Express has convenient hours for commuters and visitors alike! The takeout shop is open Monday-Saturday from 7am to 7pm and Sunday from 8am-3pm.
A Signature Pressed Sandwich ranges from $5-$11 and the Green Plaintain Sandwich is $12. The grab-and-go Empanadas are $3.50 each and the breakfast sandwiches are about $6.

The brothers partnered with Chef Marco Estrada-Oropesa on this restaurant venture, which makes sense because they view Chef Marco as another brother!
This dynamic team plans to have more restaurants soon. They hope to open another Cubanito Express storefront on South Pulaski Road in Chicago.
Cubanito is located at 3222 S. Harlem Avenue in Riverside. It’s just a four-minute walk from the Harlem Avenue stop on the BNSF Railway.
