Meet us where tequila is the secret to life (and death)
This tequila bar gets its name and its inspiration from one of the most powerful symbols of the Día de Los Muertos.
The beautiful, tall female skeleton La Catrina is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday to celebrate family members who passed over.
Often depicted wearing a fancy hat with feathers, she is a modern-day symbol of the Aztec goddess of death.
Catrina Tequila Bar owner Gisela Muñoz is proud to bring her Latin culture to Riverside, a community that this Cicero resident drove through as a child to admire the architecture of the area.
Muñoz is now the owner of a Riverside bar that we all can admire with its elegant and colorful design complete with murals and statues of the namesake Catrina.
But it’s the tequila-crafted cocktail menu that will leave you most in awe.
The Paloma Negra with tequila, lime juice, grapefruit soda, and grapefruit is as dark in color as the name implies, but it will delight your taste buds with its fruit-forward finish.
The tequila- and mezcal-crafted cocktails are the specialty here, but you can also try a coconut or mango mojito for a refreshing twist.
A limited menu of food options is available as well. Pair your cocktail with the Mexican street taco for an authentic experience.
Catrina Tequila Bar is open:
Monday through Wednesday from 3pm-10pm
Thursday 3pm-11 pm
Friday and Saturday 3 pm to midnight
Sunday 11am-5pm
Tuesdays are sometimes celebrated as Margarita Tuesday with occasional specials. Check out the Catrina Tequila Bar Facebook page for the latest.
The Day of the Dead (November 1st and 2nd) is guaranteed to be a good time at this Tequila Bar named for the holiday.
Owner Gisela Muñoz is pretty much always behind the bar at Catrina Tequila Bar. Sit down to chat tequila with an expert on the subject!
Catrina Tequila Bar is located at 34 East Avenue in Riverside just steps from the Riverside stop on the BNSF Railway.
