Meet us where the spices are one-of-a-kind
This authentic Ethiopian cafe in Oak Park brings the flavors of Africa to the village!
Addis Cafe Kalkidan “Kalki” Tesfaye mixes her own unique blend of spices to inspire traditional dishes like Ye-Miser Wot (slow-cooked lentils in berbere sauce), and Beet and Potato Salad.
You can also find more familiar menu items like scones, bagels, and a huge variety of waffles. The waffles are a specialty here. Try the Gusto Waffle with Nutella, banana, shaved walnuts, and whipped cream, or the Cinnamon Roll Waffle with sweet cream, cheese, and cinnamon sugar.
The coffee drinks here come with a delightful twist like the Mocha with Cayenne or the Tumeric Latte.
This is one of those places where you’re welcome to linger over your coffee with a drink and a book.
While the cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, talk to the chef if you are interested in a traditional Ethiopian carryout dinner prepared family-style. With this meal, you can ditch the silverware and eat with your hands and the delicious Ethiopian injera bread!
Addis Cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7am to 2pm (closed Monday).
Waffles range from $7-$9 and specialty coffee drinks from $3-$6.
Kalkidan “Kalki” Tesfaye is the owner and chef at Addis Cafe. She grew up in Ethiopia where each household creates its own blend of spices unique to that house. So it’s no surprise that Tesfaye’s mother, who taught her how to cook, brings spices from Ethiopia to Chicago whenever she visits.
Of course, you’ll find the Tesfaye household blend of spices at Addis Cafe!
Located at 818 S. Oak Park Ave, Addis Cafe is just steps from the Oak Park Stop on the “L” Blue Line.
