The Compassion Factory is an art gallery and studio that hosts exhibitions for local artists and organized art classes for kids and adults.
Here weird and wonderful works of art are created and displayed in a judgment-free space. Experienced and budding artists are supported, art is valued as a necessary part of community, and the creation of art is valued as a necessary part of life.
Rev. Karl Sokol, pastor of the Compassion United Methodist Church created the space because he believes that everyone can benefit from more art in their lives. Sokol would certainly know. He earned a degree in fine arts alongside his philosophy degree from Canterbury Christ Church University in England.
From beginner to advanced specialist, every artist will find a home at the Compassion Factory. There are open-studio hours to freely create and classes are offered in clay, ceramics, photography, and more.
The wide-open space and movable walls allow for a sort of artwork even in the creation of events. Both the gallery and studio space can be rented for celebrations, including birthdays, baby showers, and wedding rehearsals. The outdoor patio and yard are also available for rent.
The walk-in gallery hours for the Compassion Factory are Thursdays from 4pm-9pm and Saturdays from 10am-1pm.
Tours are available by appointment.
You won’t want to miss the first Friday of the month when the gallery hosts opening receptions for new exhibitions.
Drop-in hours and First Friday Receptions are open to the public and free of charge.
The Rev. Karl Sokol will likely be on hand to guide you through the gallery and studio. He is passionate about encouraging artistic expression in Brookfield.
The Compassion Factory is located at 9210 Broadway Avenue at Eight Corners in Brookfield. It’s a little more than a half-mile walk from the Brookfield stop on the BNSF Railway and 13 miles east of downtown Chicago. Street parking is available.
