Wright in the Neighborhood Outdoor Guided Walking Tour

951 Chicago Avenue
Oak Park, IL 60302

Meet us where the neighborhood was designed Wright

The Wright in the Neighborhood Outdoor Guided Walking Tour is led by a Wright expert from the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust.

You’ll explore the neighborhood where the famed architect lived, worked, and designed his own home and studio.

This is where Wright pioneered the Prairie style of architecture. You will witness the style develop and see Wright’s expertise grow with every design.

You’ll start at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio where Wright lived and designed from 1889 to 1909.

From there you’ll walk the tree-lined street that is also lined with Wright-designed homes. Some of the homes that you will see in the neighborhood include:

The Nathan G. Moore House was designed in 1895 - at the request of the owner - in the Tudor Revival style. Because of the requested style, the Moore House was never one of Wright’s favorite designs, but when a fire damaged the home, Wright added some Prairie School elements during the renovation.

The Heurtley House was designed for Arthur Heurtley and his wife Grace, and it’s one of the earliest examples of the Prairie style with a ribbon of windows.

The Laura Gale House built in 1909 with a cantilevered design was the inspiration behind Fallingwater. Wright would take what he learned at the Gale House and go on to design the world-famous structure in Pennsylvania.

You will see these homes and so many more on this guided walking tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s neighborhood.
