La Grange Village Historic District

La Grange, IL 60525

Meet us where it feels like stepping back in time

The La Grange Village Historic District is more than 1,000 (mostly) residential buildings that were built between 1870 and 1930 after the railway expanded to the area.

This district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and for good reason. Here you will feel like you’re strolling through neighborhoods straight out of the late 19th century or early 20th century. You’ll see the distinctive period designs by famed architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, John S. Van Bergen, and Enock Hill Turnock.

You’ll also see the water works building, which was built on the site of a former stone quarry. Then there is the Stone Avenue Station, which was built in 1901 with stone from the quarry.

The first library in La Grange is also part of the district. It was built in 1905.

There are many eateries and boutiques to visit on your walk through the La Grange Village Historic District. We recommend you visit Vintage Charm before grabbing a table on the patio at Palmer Place. For dessert, swing by My Grampa’s Store for candy or cake.
